Spirituality is:
Spirituality is a person’s awareness of the Divine love.
It is the life-long journey of personal healing, growth and transformation.
Spirituality is how we access Divine healing for our emotional traumas and wounds.
Even though Brian’s spirituality is based in the Christian Catholic spiritual tradition, he is familiar and accepts all belief systems which strive for a person’s greatest good and growth to find one’s authentic self.
Brian is a member of SDI (Spiritual Directors International) and ISDN (Idaho Spiritual Director Network).
Common Questions
-
In a Spiritual Counseling session, which is typically a monthly meeting, there is a opening/closing prayer, reflection and sharing. The sharing is about your spiritual questions, frustrations, and joys.
During this time, the director listens attentively to the seeker in a sacred, safe space. Brian meets in-person or via Zoom or phone. There is a small fee when you make an appointment.
In the initial sessions, people get to know each other as you share your personal story and how you experience your relationship with the Divine.
-
You may want Spiritual Companionship if you are asking some, or all, of these questions:
“What is the Divine?”
“How does the Divine fit into my life?”
“Is my experience of the Divine the same/different than what formal religion tells me?”
“What is my experience of the Divine?”
What are these spiritual feelings and experiences?

If you are seeking a deeper relationship with the Divine, or you are questioning your spiritual pathway, Spiritual Counseling may be for you.

Spiritual Direction, or Spiritual Companionship, is a time-honored tradition within all spiritual traditions, including Buddhist, Jewish, Islamic, Native, and Christian spiritual traditions.
In the Christian tradition, St Paul, in his letters to various communities, provides spiritual direction.
In the third-fifth centuries, the Desert Mothers and Fathers provided spiritual direction to those in the urban centers.
St Francis de Sales (1567-1622) was a spiritual director for St Jane Frances de Chantal (1572-1641). St Francis of Assisi provided spiritual direction for St Clare of Assisi. St Julian of Norwich (1342-1416) provided spiritual direction to the locals in Norwich, England.
In our present day, people seek spiritual direction/counseling. People seek to integrate their spirituality into their daily lives.
-
The term “Spiritual Direction” implies the director is directing the other’s spiritual life. At Spiritual Pathways, the seeker, or what is traditionally called the “directee,” directs the spiritual growth.
For these reasons, we use the terms Spiritual Counseling/Companionship which connote the mentor and the seeker on this spiritual journey of personal spiritual growth.
The seeker brings spiritual questions, concerns, and experiences to the spiritual counselor or companion who listens actively and non-judgmentally. Together, they find the seeker’s individual path to spiritual growth.
Today, we see our spirituality, bodies and psychological health as intrinsically connected. One’s spiritual health has direct effect on one’s psychological health and healing and vice versa.
Spiritual counselors are not psychological counselors. Spiritual Counselors have the experience, knowledge, and wisdom to assist you to grow spirituality. They actively listen and provide feedback.

Spiritual Companionship is similar to your phone’s Google Maps app. Together, we will find where you are presently, and where you want to go on your spiritual path.
